Energy Healing For Dogs
What it actually is, what it helps with, and what it can't do.
Let's start plainly
Energy healing for dogs is working with your dog's nervous system and emotional state rather than their behaviour.
I'm not going to dress that up in language that makes it sound like magic, because it isn't, and because you're probably here after reading a lot of things that didn't quite ring true.
Here's the version I'd give you in person.
Dogs hold stress in their bodies. You've seen it — the dog who can't settle, who tenses when someone reaches for them, who paces before anything has happened. That's a nervous system stuck in a state it can't get out of on its own.
Energy healing works with that state directly. Through Reiki, through intentional connection, and through what I pick up when I sit with a dog energetically rather than watching them from across a room.
Some of what comes through is information — patterns your dog is holding, and often where they came from. Some of it is release, where something they've been carrying eases.
You don't have to believe any of that for it to be worth reading on. What I'd ask is that you judge it on whether you understand your dog better afterwards.
WHAT IT HELPS WITH
Where I see the clearest shifts
Dogs who can't settle. Not tired-but-restless — genuinely unable to switch off. Lying down but never resting. Head up at every sound.
Separation distress. Dogs who panic when left, or who were fine and suddenly aren't.
Dogs carrying something from before you. Rescues especially. A dog who has already been left once has learned that people go and don't come back, and no amount of reassurance from you overwrites that on its own.
Dogs who don't want to be touched. Reluctance to be handled, flinching, moving away from contact. This one sits in the brachial chakra — the centre of dog-human bonding — and it's often the fastest thing to shift.
Dogs whose people are struggling too. Your dog reads you more closely than anyone alive ever has. When you're braced, they know. A lot of this work is as much about your nervous system as theirs.
THE PHYSICAL SIDE — the honest version
What about allergies, itching and gut problems?
This is the question I'm asked most, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a hopeful one.
Energy healing does not diagnose or treat allergies. If your dog is itching, chewing their paws, losing fur, or having ongoing digestive trouble, that needs a vet. Not eventually — first. Skin and gut symptoms have real medical causes, and some of them are serious. Please don't let anyone, including me, talk you out of that.
So why do people search for this?
Usually because they've already been to the vet, more than once. They've tried the diet changes, the elimination trials, the medicated washes. Something helps a bit, then it comes back. And they're left with a dog who is still uncomfortable and no clear answer why.
Here's where I can genuinely help, and it's narrower than you might hope.
Stress and the body are connected. A nervous system running on alert affects digestion, immune response and inflammation. That's not alternative medicine — it's ordinary physiology. A dog living in a state of chronic low-grade stress has a body that's working harder than it needs to.
The environment is doing more than most people realise. Your dog walks on your floors and then licks their paws. They sleep on bedding washed in fragranced detergent. They breathe whatever's in your plug-ins all day, with a nose hundreds of times more sensitive than yours. I'm a Certified Animal Aromatherapist, and a good part of what I do is helping people work out what their dog is actually being exposed to.
Compulsive licking and chewing isn't always physical. Sometimes it starts as an itch and becomes a self-soothing habit that outlives the original cause.
Those need different approaches, and telling them apart is genuinely useful.
What I'd say honestly: if your dog has an allergy, this work sits alongside veterinary care and may help with the stress load, the environment, and the behaviours that have built up around it. It does not replace treatment, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION
How it actually works
You send me a short form and a photo. Your dog's story, their history, what's brought you here.
We meet on Zoom for an hour. Your dog doesn't need to be on camera, in the room, or even awake — most of them sleep right through it. I connect energetically rather than visually, which means they stay home in their own space. That's when I can read them most clearly anyway.
Within 48 hours you get their Blueprint in writing. The main patterns they're holding, where each one seems to have come from, how it's showing up in your daily life, and what your dog needs from you specifically.
Then we have a fortnight together. You tell me what's really happening at home, and I adjust things around it.
ABOUT ME
Who you'd be working with
I'm Ciara McGeough, Dog Emotional Wellness Specialist and creator of The Calm Dog Method™. This is Archie — my best mate, and the reason I do this work.
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Animal Science and Behaviour, and I'm an Intuitive Reiki Master, a Certified Animal Communicator and a Certified Animal Aromatherapist.
That combination matters here. The science background is why I'll tell you to see your vet. The energetic training is what I bring once you have.
I've been doing this work since 2021, with dogs across Australia, Ireland and the U.S.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE
What I am and what I'm not
I'm not a vet. I don't diagnose, I don't treat medical conditions, and I don't advise on medication. If something in our session suggests physical discomfort, I'll tell you to get it checked — and I'd rather lose the booking than have you delay.
I'm not a behaviourist either. I hold an Advanced Diploma in Animal Science and Behaviour, which is a real qualification but not that one. If your dog has bitten someone, or you're dealing with serious aggression, you need a qualified veterinary behaviourist and I'll say so.
What I am is someone who works with your dog's emotional state, their environment and their nervous system — and who will be honest with you about where that helps and where it doesn't.
